Formed in 2011, the Regenerative Engineering and Medicine research center, known as REM, represents a collaborative effort among Emory University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and UGA’s Regenerative Bioscience Center.
The 2025 Regenerative Engineering and Medicine (REM) retreat was held at Emory University on May 16, drawing more than 140 attendees from across Georgia’s major research institutions. REM, a joint initiative of Emory, Georgia Tech, and the University of Georgia, fosters cross-campus collaborations in regenerative medicine.
This year’s theme—Bio-Intelligence and Regeneration: Where Tech Meets Biology—brought together researchers for a day of presentations, poster sessions, seed grant updates, and fireside chats on the role of AI in medicine.
UGA RBC students won 3 of the 4 trainee poster awards:
- First Place: Elijah Sterling from the RBC Yao Lab
- Second Place: Nathan Gonsalves from the RBC Karumbaiah Lab
- Third Place: Charlize Nakatsu from the RBC West Lab
Dr. John Peroni, co-founder of the RBC acts as REM’s co-President and has replaced former co-President Dr. Steven Stice.
