Nathan is a fourth year doctoral student in the Karumbaiah lab and started out in Summer 2021. His doctoral thesis work stands at an interdisciplinary crossroad, featuring and adapting, fundamentals from Neuroscience, Immunology, Glycobiology and Glycomaterials. His thesis work focuses on developing ‘Immunotherapeutic glycomaterials for severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) repair and regeneration’ in a rat sTBI model.
Nathan recently published his first co-author paper in the Journal of Neural Engineering titled ‘Neuritogenic glycosaminoglycan hydrogels promote functional recovery after severe traumatic brain injury’ over the summer. Furthermore, he was also awarded the 2024 UGA Graduate School Summer Research Grant.
